A ‘Must Have’ Poker iPhone Application
I recently bought an application for my iPhone to gain access to all of my poker wins/losses at the touch of a button. After comparing several different applications I decided that the app which is the most superior is the Poker Journal.
This is available for both the iPhone and iPod Touch and is extremely easy to use.
It allows you to view at a glance just how well (or badly) you are doing, whether your game was on the Internet, live cash or in a tournament.
To my great surprise I found that I was able to filter the results and see if there were trends as to when I won or lost in any kind of game I chose. For example. I could set the filters to only show tournaments played between certain times at the World Series or at a specific time of day. This is invaluable information because you can see when you have won and lost the most and alter the time and/or amounts you play. It really helps you focus on the best time to play with the most chance of winning.
You can even enter new games, locations, limits and even home games and still alter the filters to show where you are more likely to win.
I had the great honour of meeting Michael, the inventor of the application, and he assures me that he will be introducing new features in releases set to come out in the near future.
One thing that made me laugh was the fact he had been asked on several occasions to include is a ‘wife mode’ so that if your partner gets hold of it she will see that you are only winning – not losing. I am not sure about that particular idea, however a simple password protect wouldn’t go amiss.
The things I liked the most about Poker Journal.
- You can see a graph showing exactly what yor profit and loss status is.
- You can edit ‘on the fly’ whilst a tournament or cash game is in progress.
- You can back date and enter all you previous results from tournaments you have entered.
- The support from Michael is second to none.
The things which were not so good.
- Many poker pros play all over the world and it currently only shows one currency. An in-built currency converter would be a great benefit to those individuals.
- The initial screen is rather confusing when you first get the app. Therefore do take the time and trouble to go to help and view the videos which Michael Golden has put on youtube.
Summary
Frankly, the poker journal is a must have application for all professional and serious poker player who need to keep accurate records as to how they are doing. This allows you to do just that and actually improves your game as it allows you to identify when you are most likely to win based on your previous results.
Trust me – if you are serious about poker, you have to get this application.
